The Torque n Power Podcast has been in contact with the Honourable Mick Murray MLA – Minister for Seniors and Ageing; Volunteering; Sport and Recreation. He has confirmed the following –
“Prior to its closure, the Motorplex team finalised plans for the 2020/21 season to potentially commence in either October or December, dependent on lifting of COVID-19 major event restrictions and the venue operator.”
“Like all major event venues in WA, Motorplex is currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions and this year s racing season concluded early ahead of the usual winter recess as a result. The venue is not expected to re-open before the end of the usual winter recess.”
“VenuesWest is currently funded by the State Government to run Motorplex for season 2020/2021. Should the major event restrictions be lifted, consideration of next year’s operations will occur.”
“Please note that VenuesWest’s objective is to ensure long term delivery of high-quality motorsport, particularly drag racing and speedway events, and believes the venue is best owned and run by the private sector. This option continues to be pursued.” End quote.
We will keep all of our listeners across further developments as they come to hand.
